Executioner's Sledgehammer

Love is the sledgehammer that’s about to kill me
It’s a block of cast iron 6 feet in the air
As I breathe my last sigh, reeling in fear
Or relief? After all, I’m the thief
Who dared to steal another to make a pair
I plead, I plead, I stole out of need
But the weapon wasn’t stowed, in fact it kept rising
Rising in the sky until it blocked out the sun
Then it came down, came down with no fear
The hammer moves where it pleases, the executioner is stunned
She might even stop if given another second
But the damage is done, the job must go on
Because I’m the wall in the rundown building
Whose bricks once housed something, but are now just a nuisance
An eyesore with smashed windows and covered in ivy
So ugly, she paid to crush and grind me
Back to the rubble, back to my past
Into the gravel where I’ll be lost and astray
Looking for the sediment that matched my grain
And maybe, just maybe, become a brick someday
